Serve as in-house expert on company’s network telephone system (SuperStack 3 NBX) and total control carrier VOIP platform. Key Projects & Contributions:

·         Palm Computing Integration: Integrated Palm Computing’s remote-access systems (Dial & VPN) into 3Com’s systems upon relocation from Mountain View to the 3Com Santa Clara Campus.

·         Palm Computing Spin-off: Created network design of 3Com’s spin-off from Palm Computing. Collaborated with technology teams in designing and installing gigabit network in Palm’s building.  

·         The Planet Project: Successfully constructed network for international polling event, consisting of 2 X DS-3, 2X1 gigabit Internet circuits, frame relay and 4x T1s, as well as 12-high-end switches and load-balanced firewalls, located at AT&T’s Redwood City Data Center and 3Com’s Santa Clara Data Center. Completed this $1 million project in two months.

·         Global Radius Authentication for Remote Access: Deployed distributed database radius system, enabling company administrators to add/delete/edit users’ accounts via remote access, saving the company considerable user time and money, compared to the former centralized system.

·         Campus Backbone Modernization Project: Directed team responsible for replacing 25 ATM switches and bridged ethernet/FDDI/ATM backbone with modern gigabit Ethernet backbone, increasing reliability of the campus network by 100%, compared to frequent downtime and six-figure losses caused by previous system. 

·         San Diego Office: Led group of engineers challenged with designing and installing 3Com’s newest office (for staff of 250), which including a gigabit backbone for hi-capacity R&D integrated with CAD. Installed network-based telephone system instead of cabling, which saved the company nearly $100,000.

·         Santa Clara Wireless Network: Designed and installed campus-wide Santa Clara wireless network (802.11b), enabled laptop connection to the LAN, using wireless cards; this is the nation’s largest and most secure wireless networks, with VPN (Virtual Private Networking) safeguarding all data with 128 bit encryption.

Operated 24/7 data center, which included 25-PC network and Mitel phone switch communication, supporting E‑mail, newsgroups, and Web servers. Managed Internet E-mail system, comprised of Sendmail (SMTP), POP and hundreds of T-1 lines connected to dial-up access equipment. Supervised 3 engineers responsible for daily network operations. Upgraded servers with more powerful computers, according to capital equipment budget.  Administered security protocols, including the firewall, to prevent unauthorized access to company’s internal network. Maintained all system documentation.

Key Projects & Contributions:

·         Hired as the 4^th employee of this rapidly-growing start-up company, and played a significant role in leading network growth from 2,000 subscribers and 1 location to 20,000+ subscribers and 4 locations

·         Credited with developing the company’s T1 sales, frame relay sales, web hosting and co-location businesses.

·         Integrated and deployed the company’s first high bandwidth customers, using T1 lines ethernet cabling.
